Dr. Gerald Cephas received a B.S. in biomedical engineering from Duke University in 1990, before completing medical school at the University of Virginia in 1994. He remained at UVA to complete the residency program in general surgery in 2001. Dr. Cephas then began performing laboratory research under a grant administered the National Institutes of Health, which he continued until 2004, when he worked with a private medical group in Southern California.
In 2008, Dr. Cephas began performing clinical research in the areas of psychiatry and neuroscience, including trials in major depression, postpartum depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, binge-eating disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, essential tremor disorder, tardive dyskinesia, and multiple sclerosis.
